SICA On 24 May 2013 the members of the four SICA projects came together in London to develop networks and synergies with each other.
MEDIGENE studies genetic and environmental determinants of metabolic syndrome in immigrant Mediterranean populations. RODAM is studying the interplay between environment and genetics in the development of Type 2 diabetes and obesity in populations in Europe of Sub-Saharan Africa origin. During the course of the day the rationale and design of the projects were shared and the ensuing discussions covered progress to date, the technical challenges and emerging results. Strong opportunities were identified for future collaborative working including training of the research team, sharing of technical tools and data, and the design of future shared experiments. We will follow-up with a further group meeting in 12 months, to coincide with a major T2D meeting. Below are our presentation slides from the session. Click the presentation title to view online.
